Barrio de Jalatlaco
Oaxaca de Juarez has a beautiful and historic neighborhood called Jalatlaco. The history runs deep as it dates back to before the arrival of the Spanish - when it was a Zapotec village. As one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, walking through the cobbled streets of this small neighborhood, you perceive a sense of tranquility. Mostly inhabited by local residents, you’ll find the streets decorated with art at every corner, you can also find local, traditional food + small gourmet restaurant and bars.
the true charm of Jalatlaco is found in its streets and alleys. The best thing you can do is start walking, to explore the endless nooks and crannies of the stories that nest in its stones and in its wooden doors. i’m enamored by the signs of age throughout the neighborhood and its architecture - like Templo de San Matías, built back in the 17th century as one example.
Located just at the edge of Centro, Jalatlaco offers a different experience of Oaxaca.
